History
The cartoon theatre of František Kratochvíl
The theatre of extraordinary possibilities, with a space for genre difference (drama, dance and classical ballet), theatre suited for film and TV. Cartoon theatre was first presented to the public on March 17th, 1975, with the play of František Kratochvíl and Vladimír Cabalka – called “The Clown”. The topic of the play is the basic structure of human relationships – the everlasting problem called “you and I” that in its most intriguing way depicts the relationship between a man and a woman. The theatre went on with more productions – the innovative opening night of “The Anatomy of a Kiss” based on “The Clown”, followed by “Miss Sony” in which the author depicted the power of television over mankind, and the opening night of “Quo Vadis” in which with the unique technique – patented worldwide – he depicts the times from the creation of the world to the turn of the millenium.
Cartoon theatre is a new stage form and a new stage talk. Cartoon theatre does not play at anything, it just simply exists. It is suitable for a small child, for a man who is seeking entertainment, it will make a theatre theoretician laugh and it will please an intellectual. Therefore the theatre is successful both at home and abroad. It has traveled almost the whole world and now it is coming back to Spain, France, America, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Australia and many other countries. Anywhere it travels it is demanded for its stroytelling and has no barriers as far as language is concerned. The story on stage can unify different people –different laguages, opinions and moods. With its poetics and humor cartoon theatre is very close to small – form theatres.
